SOLAR HOT WATER
What are the benefits?
Solar hot water and solar power (known as solar electricity systems, photovoltaics or PV) are a great way to save on energy bills and ensure your home can function in an emergency.
All PV systems that are installed are monitored by the installer for faults.
Most installs are new build, rather than retrofit, and would not qualify for the Regional Council financial assistance. However, homeowners with existing homes can apply.
Battery technology has yet to hit volumes that reduce the price and currently the average starter system is $7,000 -$12,000. Because this is a (relatively) young market constrained by power company purchase rates and payback period, be aware that the more you spend on solar, the longer it takes to pay for itself.
Solar hot water and photo voltaic power have different systems - one piped, one cabled. Cable is easier to retro fit.
WAter storage
What are the benefits?
Water storage provides a ready supply of water for your garden, particularly in summer during water restrictions. These may reduce the demand on the reticulated supply by up to 40%, especially in a hot, dry Hawke’s Bay summer.
Water tanks also reduce storm water pressure on your property and neighbourhood, and reduce the need to pump more water from aquifers and streams.
Modern waste water systems are more efficient at dealing with your waste water, so are safer and healthier. Replacing old septic tanks that leak contaminants into the soil and waterways mean you help reduce the inevitable risks for human health and freshwater habitats.
clean heating
What are the benefits?
Replacing your open fire or old wood burner gives you cleaner winter air and a healthier home inside and out. We can provide advice and funding for plenty of efficient heating options, including heat pumps, gas fires, pellet burners and wood burners.
Funding options are dependent on where you live - if your property is in Napier or Hastings cities and your property falls in the one of the Airsheds, you will qualify for Clean Heat borrowing or a grant.
You can check whether you live within one of these Airsheds here.
